YRmail
YRmail is the new mail system for Yitzhak Rabin High School. Organized and designed by our talented staff and students, the YRmail system is essentialy a partnership between YRHS and Google. YRmail consists of several google applications that can be used with a YRmail account, rather than a Gmail account. Also, the YRmail system gives accounts an @yrhs.ca ending. Every student at YRHS is given an account on the first week of school, and that account is used quite regularily in both student life, and in classroom learning.
Independant Learning Center
Yitzhak Rabin High School works with the Independent Learning Centre of Ontario to provide our students with the opportunity to complete credit courses for which there might be insufficient demand to form a class or for other reasons, including the provision of enrichment opportunities. A qualified high school teacher is designated as the ILC Day School Facilitator and students are scheduled to meet with her on a regular basis to ensure their success in this program.
Reach Ahead
Yitzhak Rabin is offering Grade 9 Music (AMU1O) to Grade 8 students in the elementary school in the 2009-10 school year as an introductory Reach Ahead credit. Such courses enable students to obtain a full credit towards their diploma before being formally enrolled in a high school. The course is offered after school and will be taught by a qualified High School music teacher and supervised by the Principal of Yitzhak Rabin High School.
Jewish Family Services Student and Youth Services
Jewish Family Services of Ottawa-Carleton provides a part-time Guidance Counsellor to help schools and families develop relationships of mutual trust, regular communication and cooperation in the interest of the student.
Parents, teachers and students are invited to access the JFS Counsellor at any time through the school Guidance Counsellor or through the Principal, should they wish to share concerns.
Guidance and Career Counseling
This programme helps students with career exploration and decision-making. Career counselling, decision making with regards to courses and options are also available to students. Students are encouraged to examine their strengths and preferences and relate these to a wide range of occupations. Options about spending a year in Israel can be explored as well.
Laptop Program
As of September, 2009, every Yitzhak Rabin student and classroom teacher is assigned a laptop computer for use in the school's wireless environment. Teachers have received extensive training on laptop teaching.
Teacher Mentor Program
Each student has the opportunity to choose a teacher-mentor who advises and advocates for the student. The two meet at least once per term to discuss any challenges and progress. Teacher-mentors stress goal setting, study and organizational skills and time management. These skills are reinforced in the classroom as well. This programme provides students with individualized support, encouragement and motivation.
This group promotes school spirit, initiates activities and provides direction.
Tefillah
YRHS has daily afternoon (Minchah) services.
